Rutland was served by
three stations on the Boston & Maine line that ran from Boston
to North Hampton through the town. This cache marks the western
most Rutland station, appropriately named "West Rutland". Imagine
stepping off the train onto the platform. Can you see where the
station was? Where the platform and tracks were? Cachers can
explore the railbed to the east and pass through Charnock Hill cut,
which was recently restored by Wachusett Greenways. Note the new
tunnel under Charnock Hill road, allowing unrestricted access
through the cut! The railbed also extends well to the west through
Rutland State Park. Several caches lie in both directions along the
railbed.
