To access Betsy Bell Park, take Greenville Avenue (US Route 11) in Staunton to Betsy Bell Road (across from Arby's and next to Burger King). At the end of the paved road there is a gravel road that climbs through the park. Drivers are advised that the road is narrow and steep with loose-packed gravel and some serious potholes. As of summer 2019, new signs have been added that state "No Cars with Low Ground Clearance". As always, it would be a challenge if you met a car moving in the opposite direction. You likely want a 4WD vehicle or plan to hike up - that's been Mrs E4's strategy for the last 10 years or so. Please exercise caution.
This cache is a short trek from the parking area for the top overlook. PLEASE REHIDE AS FOUND - COVER IT WELL! There is broken glass in the parking lot up here and scattered in the woods, so avoid wearing sandals and make sure the kids don't pick up any of that colorful sharp stuff on the ground!
While you're there, be sure to check out the view to the northeast from the platform at N38 8.218 W079 3.234. In the summer there is lots of foliage blocking most of the view from here (Mrs E4 was amazed in 2025 at how much less you can see now than 15 years ago), but at one time you could see all the area around US 250 and I-81 with the mountains of Shenandoah National Park in the distance.
