Discover the lost garden of Tenby. Situate alongside the coastal path on a high vantage point between Tenby North Beach and Waterwynch bay it used to be known for the wonderful view of Tenby.
If you are in a car I suggest you use the Butts Field (North Beach) Car Park at N51-40.747; W004-42.160. It is Pay & Display.
Regrettably, the trees have now grown in front of the garden and the view is almost lost southwards where the Viewpoint marker is placed. However, if you move to the other side of the garden there is a North facing seat with a wonderful coastal view in the other direction toward Monkstone Point. This is a peaceful place and whilst not as well kept as it should be, has a tranquil charm.
The cache is alongside the coast path close by. Finding it should be fun - for this is/has been a play area for rabbits and badgers and tree cover could cause you problems. You will not need to climb or disturb the foliage or stones to find it and it is in easy reach for grown-ups and taller children. Please close and conceal it again carefully as we do not want the aforesaid creatures making off with it!
After finding it, you might like to walk on to Waterwynch Bay half a mile further on. If you would like a pleasant circular country ramble go back uphill on the tarmacadam road to N51-41.280; W004-42.546 turn sharp left and follow the cycle track left again after 50 yards down the small lane which was the old Tenby Road. This will lead you down a rough lane to the tarmac road within 100 yards of the entrance to the Butts Field Car Park.
Alternatively you could follow the coastal path in the direction of Saundersfoot and try for the Tenby/Saundersfoot Coastal Path Cache.
The path to the cache is good but - although it is useable for pushchairs - where there are steps there is a grass/mud (depending on season) alternative path, I would not recommend for wheelchairs because of the gradients involved and the slippery conditions in short parts only in wetter weather.
