Located only minutes from the bustle of downtown Boston, the DCR
Blue Hills Reservation stretches over 7,000 acres from Quincy to
Dedham, Milton to Randolph, providing a green oasis in an urban
environment. The Great Dome is located in the northern region of
the reservation.
The cache is a 15oz. lock&lock and is in a remote and less
traveled section that offers a panoramic vista of the larger hills
to the south & west, and rumor has it that this is an old
indian burial ground. I took the Sawcut Notch Path, but the green
dot and other trails will bring you close to the area. A slight
bushwhack through scrub oak will get you to GZ. Parking can be had
at a few gravel lots along Wampatuck and Chickatawbut Roads, but
most will find it easier to use the St. Moritz/Shea Rink lot.
WARNING ! The Blue Hills are the native
habitat of two species of poisonous snakes, TIMBER RATTLERS and
COPPERHEADS. Always use caution while searching and NEVER do
anything that would harm these endangered animals.
