Geocache Description:

Along the rock river, not far from where the train bridge cross', and past where the boats put in.

The ol days of the traveling men who would ride open box cars en masse are pretty much gone. Their cultural oddities all but gone too. I know I wouldn’t even recognize the marks they would make to let others of their band know the virtues of the local populace. Vagabonds, hobos, sometimes to a youngster seem romantic and mysterious, a life on the road going only where the rails could take you. Staying only long enough to move along. Shadowy fellows leaving only refuse in their wake. For what was of no use to them would be foolishness to carry to the next stop or the next anything for that matter. I would stumble upon some hobo hang outs in my travels, their castaways strewn about as if to mark their boundaries. Often a curious collection of stuff too, but mostly old smelly damp moldy things too worn to be of any use. I’d poke about the tacky debris wondering where the owner went to and would they be back this way sometime. Once I even found a cookie box full of letters and cuff links and post cards which belonged to one of these ner do wells. The letters were all moldy corrodey, you couldn’t read a letter of them. The cuff links were the prize that I’d been seeking, “Hey look here” I’d proclaim when arriving home. “Look what I found. Think they’re real gold?!” Well they weren’t but I kept them just the same, and the post cards were never mailed, but they were signed. I couldn’t make out where they were to be sent or even what they wanted to say, the only thing I could make out was the signature closing that said, “I miss you so much. Love, Stu”. I have had this collection of stuff (Minus the moldy corrodey letters) on one of my dad's basement shelves until the other day when we were cleaning out some of the accumulated junk; he told me the ol cookie box had to go. So I cleaned it up and painted it too, then hid it for you to find. I don’t know anything about the previous owner, where he came from or where he’s gone to, or even who he was writing to, but I hope it all worked out for Hobo Stu. (I've still got the cuff links.)
