Der Torre Picada ist einer der mächtigsten Wachttürme auf Mallorca.

Am 11. Mai 1561 tauchten vor dem Strand von Port de Soller 1500 muslimische Piraten in 22 Booten auf und schickten sich an, das reiche Soller zu überfallen, nachdem sie schon in Andratx, Valldemossa, Alcudia und Pollenca gewütet hatten. Soller war zuvor bereits mehrfach von den Korsaren angegriffen, aber noch nie erobert worden. In aller Eile stellten die Bewohner der Stadt eine Truppe von 800 Freiwilligen zusammen, die von lediglich zwei erfahrenen Soldaten angeführt wurden. Die Schlacht tobte hin und her und schliesslich gelang es den hochmotivierten Bewohnern, die Freibeuter zurück ins Meer zu treiben.

Der Wachtturm wurde erst nach diesem Pirateneinfall von 1561 erbaut und Soller blieb seitdem von Piraten verschont.

Anfahrt: In Port de Soller in die C/ ANTONI MONTIS abbiegen (dritte bzw. vierte Strasse nach rechts Richtung SA FIGUERA). Bereits nach wenigen 100 Metern kommt links der PARKPLATZ MUNICIPAL. Oder noch 100 Meter weiterfahren bis zum PLACA DELS REIS DE MALLORCA. Zur Zeit ist dort eine Baustelle, aber wir haben dort jeden Tag einen Parkplatz gefunden. Wer noch ein paar Schritte weniger laufen will, fährt bis zu den angegebenen Koordinaten. Weiter hinaufzufahren wird nicht empfohlen, obwohl die Strasse nicht gesperrt ist.

Torre Picada is one of the biggest towers on Mallorca.

On May 11th, 1561 1.500 muslim pirates in 22 boats appeared at the beach of Port de Soller and they prepared to attack the rich city of Soller after their ravage at Andratx, Valldemossa, Alcudia und Pollenca. Soller had been attacked by pirates before but had never been conquered. In a very rush, the inhabitants of the city formed a troup of 800 volounteers leaded by only two expierienced soldiers. After a raging battle the inhabitants succeeded to repel the pirates to the sea, finally.

The tower was built only after the pirates' attack of 1561 and since then, Soller has never been attacked any more.

How to get there: In Port de Soller turn into C/ ANTONI MONTIS (third resp. fourth lane right direction SA FIGUERA). After some 100 meters you will find PARKING MUNICIPAL at the left, or drive 100 meters further to PLACA DELS REIS DE MALLORCA. At the time being, there are street works but we found parking space every day. If you even want to walk some steps less you can drive to the coordinates given above. We do not recommend to drive further up although the street is not prohibited.
