Soldier's Story: Final Objective Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

CoyoteTrust: I think this final cache itself may be re-born with a new name in the same spot. The entire series had a good run and in many respects it is sad & unfortunate to archive it. Maybe there will be a sequel series in new locales (I've worked on some ideas for a number of years now, but...) Regardless, I appreciate all of you who have embarked on the missions, offered your -- 55! -- favorite points, and for your kind words about the series. Thank you.

Geocache Description:

*** THE ABOVE COORDINATES ARE NOT CORRECT! YOU MUST COMPLETE THIS SERIES (IN SEQUENCE) BEGINNING WITH SOLDIER’S STORY MISSION #1: INFILTRATION

DISCLAIMER: The terrain rating is variable based on season and weather; your tactical maneuvers may require bushwhacking, thorns, uneven terrain, water, climbing, and general annoyances that make caching fun. ***

This series is a resurrection of an original "Soldier's Story" cache series from days gone by. It's both coincidental and fitting that this series has been revived just before Veterans Day 2006. Hence, this series is dedicated to those fighting the Global War on Terrorism in Afghanistan, Iraq, and all other points on the globe; to veterans of yesterday & today; and to all military family members.

SITUATION: Final objective located.

MISSION: Execute final mission.

EXECUTION: Multi-cache, 4 stages, some compass or WP projection skills required.

SUPPORT: The Final Objective coordinates you obtained from the series lead you to an object (the Sentry). To add realism, you will move from one point to another before reaching the final cache; these movements mimic a squad’s tactics in sweeping and clearing the enemy base! See the section below to determine your assault plan.

At stage #2 and #3 of this final, you are seeking a dog tag, as pictured below. There are two dog tags at these stages (for purposes of having a "back-up" in case one goes missing).

ADDITIONAL SUPPORT:

The Sentry:
Sneak-attack the sentry! The Sentry has some hand-written letters and numbers on it. Use the following to maneuver and assault the Perimeter:

1: Convert the second and third letters on the Sentry to a number (A=1, B=2, etc.)
2: Multiply these numbers together
3: Add one hundred (100) to the result
4: The new result is your distance to travel (in feet).
5: Subtract one (1) from the smallest single digit on the Sentry
6: The result is your magnetic azimuth

The Perimeter:
Break through the perimeter defenses!
Seek a metal dog tag etched with the magnetic azimuth and distance to the next point.

The Machine Gun Nest:
Destroy the machine gunner position!
Seek a metal dog tag etched with the magnetic azimuth and distance to the next point.

The Command Post (final cache):
Tactically assault the Command Post, render it useless, and secure enemy war plan documents!

Thanks in advance for joining the fight.
The original "Soldier's Story" series of missions (GCN86M) only lasted from March '05 to October '05. Here's the Honor Roll to mention the following 'soldiers' who braved that entire original series; the names in blue have completed the second tour of duty on this latest series: JustUsTwo (original FTF), FallenFaery, SpecialEd, Stunod, GeniusLoci, Hutt, JBGeo, TheLoneRanger, and Quintin.
