Edinburgh is famous throughout the
world as the number one destination for party-goers at Hogmanay
(that's New Years Eve to non-scots!). This is reflected by the
continued success of the Street Party on Princes Street and the
spectacular fireworks display that is launched from Edinburgh's
seven hills. It's wide appeal means that people from all over the
world travel to Edinburgh for these celebrations.
Given the international flavour of Edinburgh at this time of
year this event has been launched for both Edinburgh and
non-Edinburgh cachers to meet up, have a drink, show off their new
Christmas goodies and generally have a good time the day before the
main festivities. |
This event itself is being held at The Stable Bar, a quiet family-friendly inn at
Mortonhall in the south of Edinburgh. They also offer a range of
food to warm you up on a cold winter's evening, as well as a book
exchange! There is a camping and caravan site next door if any
brave souls want cheap accommodation. If coming by public
transport, both the number 18 and the number 11 Lothian buses pass
nearby. Click here for further
details. If anybody is having problems finding transport to the
event from central Edinburgh, contact me and I'll try to arrange
something. No tables are booked, but I am assured by the management
that they will have room for us all!
The event will start at 3pm on Saturday 30th December,
which should give cachers an opportunity to find several of the
caches in the area before coming along to the meet.
We shall also be having an optional tombola and maybe even a
quiz! Any donations of unwanted Christmas presents or geocoins as
prizes will be gratefully received. There will also be an
opportunity to sign a get-well soon card for Billy Twigger, a well-loved Scottish cacher
who unfortunately is recovering in hospital after a tragic
accident earlier this year (click here for further details).
Caches that have been placed for this event are
Liberton Decoy,
Liberton Anti-Aircraft Battery,
Galachlaw,
Stroke My Fir!,
Mortonhall Army Camp &
Morton House and Belvedere
