Lovely, traditional
pub in the pretty village of Goring on Thames complete with
inviting inglenook fire, beams and large garden. Quality home
cooked dishes and a warm welcome await visitors to The Catherine
Wheel. Dogs are allowed and there is a non-smoking area. This old,
beamed Brakspear Catering Pub of The Year 2006 is tucked away but
close to the centre of Goring. There are many lovely walks and
bridleways nearby, as well as a pretty part of the River
Thames.
The pub is in an area
which is fairly densely populated with caches. There are 50 within
a five-mile radius, the closest one being The Cache Hoppers' very
own Thames Path: Goring Bridge. An event cache will be set - it
will go live on the Friday/Saturday and will be within walking
distance of the pub. We will have printouts at the
pub.
As the run up to
Christmas is expensive and busy, we're keeping this as simple as
possible. No raffles, no Secret Santa, just a pub lunch and a few
drinks in the company of lots of lovely people, interspersed with a
bit of caching. There will of course be the customary TB swapping
going on.
the menu for the day. It isn't obligatory to pre-order your
food, however, it would help the catering staff if you could -
email to us via our GC.com profile. You will need to know roughly
what time you will be eating to pre-order though. The pub has
advised that with the number of likely attendees the food may not
appear as quick as we would like, but they will do their best, so I
would suggest ordering as soon as you arrive. It's not a huge pub,
so they are closing their kitchen doors to the rest of the public,
with the exception of one booking which had already been
made.
We hope that as many
cachers as possible are able to make the event and look forward to
seeing you there. Please state in your log how many of you there
will be.
Directions:
Heading towards the Thames bridge from the station, turn left in
front of the church. Follow the road past another pub and round the
corner, then the Catherine Wheel will be on your left with a big
car park behind. The access road to the car park is quite
narrow - blink and you may miss it! It is a pay and display
car park; will confirm parking rates in due course, but they are
minimal. You will be able to find free on-street parking in Goring
if you prefer.
