I've been wanting to place a cache in the Benchmark It series as a
tribute to
Greywolf1242 and his 255 Benchmark finds (as of 11/7/06). I
contacted him today, and with his permission, I reserved a number
and placed the cache. He'll be coming through Burley this weekend
on a quest to pick up 90 more benchmarks that he has mapped out in
our area.
Here's a short story about this man that we all call
Greywolf:
This past winter, Greywolf sat at home wondering what can I do.
Since he's retired and there's not much yard work for a guy to do
in the winter, he discovers Geocaching.com. A quick search of his
zipcode nets him with zero caches in the Gooding area and only a
few in Bliss. On February 12th, 2006 he hooks up with mic and miny
to head towards Bliss. His first cache find was well earned as the
team struggled to find the stages of a Multi-cache called
"
He's Watching You" but find it they did!
Back at home he continues to explore the website where he
discovers Benchmark hunting and the abundance of those all around
Gooding. On February 24th, he finds his first benchmark (NV0443).
Benchmarks are more plentiful than caches and gas wasn't cheap.
I hadn't ever heard of this guy until I received a call from
Shootie one day and she told me about someone in Gooding that's
placing a bunch of caches. I punched the zip code of Gooding into
the search field and I too was amazed at what a busy beaver this
guy was. I continued to check out his profile page and I discovered
that he had Muddawber and I beat on benchmark finds by a long ways.
Who was this masked man??????? There wasn't anyone by the name of
Greywolf1242 on Larobley's stat counting website. I sent Larobley
an e-mail though to let him know about Greywolf and one week later
Muddawber and I had fell down one rung of the ladder, LOL!
