This cache can be accessed by either parking at the top of 29th street in Ogden or by Parking at Snowbasin. Please be sure to hide as well as you found it. When you walk away be sure that it isn't visible. This is a tough hike with lots of steep climbing. It is beautiful at night. Could be accessed in the winter but you might need a metal detector. It takes me about 1.25 hours to get to from Snowbasin if I hike without stopping and about 45 minutes down. I would say that is the minimum hike.
I placed this cache in honor of Mel the original cancercaching who died at the age of 31 of colon cancer on 10-8-2004 and leaves behind a loving husband and two very young girls. Her Birthday was November 10th 1972. She was a very avid cacher until her death.
The story of this cache is that on July 4, 1991, Mel and I (her husband) hiked up to the top of Mount Ogden to watch the fireworks for the whole city from the mountain top. They ended up being very tiny and hard to really see. We were surprised that they don't go higher than they do, but the view of the city at night was awesome. We brought our dog Cowboy and he climbed up fine but he got sick at the top. We had to carry him down in our backpack. We also forgot a flashlight and had to hike down in the dark. It was spooky but unforgettable. Something we always remembered and talked about and I thought it would be a great way to remember Mel with a cache up here on her Birthday. Sit and enjoy the awesome view and share in your logs any memory that is dear to you that you would like to share.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEL!!!
