Allt Glais Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Andalusite: This cache has been missing for some time and as the owner has not responded to recent logs I am archiving it.

Guidelines: "You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time - normally a few weeks - in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing."

If you wish to email me please send your email via my profile (click on my name) and quote the cache name and number.

Geocache Description:

The Ceredigion Coastal Path has many varied caches.

The path between Aberystwyth and Clarach Bay has recently been partly re-routed and is now a very pleasant, surfaced track suitable for pushchairs etc., although there are still some very steep slopes that might make it difficult if you are pushing a wheelchair. **Allt Glais cache itself is not accessible to wheelchairs**

Allt Glais is hidden off the coast path between Constitution Hill and Clarach. The area has open access with footpaths across fields for those not wishing to walk close to the cliff edges. The path involves a steep climb up Constitution Hill on the approach from Aberystwyth, or you can take the Cliff Railway.

The easiest way to access the cache site is to approach from the Games Room near the Consti Restaurant, take the upper path past the frisbee golf. Go through the big gate on the left and follow the gravel track to just before the radar station, then go over the stile. Keep to the top of the hill and follow it round the fence line.

Trust your GPS and don't make any assumptions

Once you have found the cache, go downhill towards the woods and keep to the boundary fence, at the bottom there is a step-stile. From here you can find Barking Up The Wrong Tree very nearby and then continue to Clarach Bay or return to Aberystwyth. On the way back to Aberystwyth you can also get Coast Path Caper.

Safety Notes:
The whole area is steeply sloping and not suitable for buggies or wheelchairs.
Whilst bicycles are "allowed", you will need to be able to lift them over stiles to access this cache, one of which has steps up to it.

If you choose to walk over the fields:
There is a steep step/stile to be negotiated at the Clarach end of the trail.
You may be walking among sheep, (they are very friendly!) so please keep your dogs under control.

If you want to bag the trig point you will need to access it from the track which leads to the radar station. It is not directly accessible from the cache location.

This cache is close to the Rainbow Series - Orange Cache, Barking up The Wrong Tree, and the Clarach bay caches.

Toilet facilities, picnic benches and restaurant all available at Constitution Hill. There is also Frisbee Golf, Camera Obscura, Gift Shop, a lovely new games room with a skittle alley, and Bouncy Castle (weather permitting).

I am pleased to say that my preferred route to his cache, via the stile near the radar station, is still available, despite earlier logs about there being barbed wire over the gate. Do not attempt to climb the new gate close to the top of Consti. If you walk further down the track the stile is easily seen and negotiated.

NB:
There are signs for the new coast path, in the field, that send you down a steep slope through some gorse bushes. If you are not too steady on your feet or you have small children with you I would not recommend that you use this path. It is uneven, rocky and steeply sloping in places. In wet weather it could get very slippery and dangerous.
After doing the cache, go down the hill towards Clarach and follow the lower fence line towards the sea. This takes you nicely over the step stile on the original coast path to Barking up the Wrong Tree. You can then do Coast Path Caper on the way back to Aber.
There is also a stile just downhill from Allt Glais cache which takes you on a pleasant walk through the woods.

PLEASE ALSO NOTE THAT GET LAID CACHES IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE AND HAS BEEN ARCHIVED
