Geocache Description:

A nice hike into a beautiful box canyon in a town conservation area.

Devil’s Den is named for a raffish would-be hermit who briefly holed up inside during the late 1700's. The small cave you see at the bottom of the canyon (usually with some water running through it) is not the only cave, and probably not where the hermit lived. There are two more levels of cave above that one which are accessible only by climbing or scrambling. See here for a very nice page by the Upper Valley Land Trust on this area.

There is a good trail all the way in to the edge of the box canyon but once you leave the trail the terrain is diffcult (4 or 4.5). The road to the trailhead is not winter maintained. This cache could be very difficult with snow on the ground.

Cache is in an ammo container. It has been relocated to make Muggles less likely to stumble across it.

Please avoid the Trillium in this area.

Please include where you are from (Town, State and/or Country) in your log as our Conservation Commission likes to track this.
