tozainamboku: This cache has disappeared several times because it sat on a ridge that gets bulldozed as a fire break whenever there is a wildfire in the area. Looked today and there is a mound of debris nearby, so it may be buried. But rather than trying to find it, I hid a new cache nearby.

Geocache Description:

Hike to the top of Mt. Hillyer for views of the San Gabriel range and Big Tujunga watershed.

The cache is hidden on a ridge near the summit of Mt. Hillyer. From the cache you will have excellent views of Mt. Waterman, Mt. Wilson, Strawberry Peak, Mt.Pacifico, and others, and a spectacular view of Big Tujunga Canyon.

Ascend by the Mt. Hillyer trail from Dead Horse campground. An Adventure pass is required to park here. The trail passes Rick's Rocks and Chilao Verde caches on the way. From one of Mt. Hillyer's three peaks (not the highest) at N 34° 20.698 W 118° 01.261, find the faint trail all the way to the cache. The cache is a 50mm ammo can..
