Ellan Decker, a true pioneer, arrived in Palo Verde in 1902. She was undaunted by the primitive accomodations, both housing and those provided for her first teaching job in the first school in the Palo Verde Valley. Her story is a real treasure. We first learned about Ellan when a friend gave us a book to read. This book, which was put togeather by the Palo Verde Historical Museum and Society, documents her time in Palo Verde from 1902 to 1922. Most of what is printed is from her own diary. We hope you enjoy this tribute to one of our first Palo Verde Valley pioneers. The cache was placed facing the valley she lived and taught in.
