Geocache Description:

Micro container hidden near Jim Miller Hall - Home of the Thoroughbreds.

Jim Miller Hall has been the home of the Thoroughbred Chorus since 1981. Originally a Luthern Church, the cornerstone was laid July 3, 1833. After a fire, the new building, basically as it appears today, was dedicated September 8, 1895. After purchase by the Thoroughbred Chorus in 1981 it was placed on the National Register of Historic Buildings. Today, Jim Miller Hall is used for rehearsals by the Thoroughbreds and The Derby City Chorus of the Sweet Adelines. Befitting its 160 year tradition, the hall is used by The Faith Community Church each Sunday.

**** You Do NOT Need to Read any of this to find the cache ****

The Thoroughbred Chorus, founded July 11, 1945, is Louisville's oldest and most prestigious Barbershop Chorus with seven Internation Championships. F.W. Drybrough, a Louisville business man, had invited a number of his friends to come to his home to listen to some "Barber Shop" harmony with the thought in mind that it might be possible to form a local chapter of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing (now the Barbershop Harmony Society).

Twice the number invited showed up and on that same afternoon the Louisville Chapter was born. There were 33 charter members. The chapter increased in numbers over the years and at one time had 297 members. The chorus met every other week at local hotels, first at the Henry Clay, then later at the Watterson Hotel and finally the Seelback. The chapter presented its first show at the Memorial Auditorium in November of 1946.

Jim Miller Hall is named after Mr. Jim Miller, director of the Thoroughbreds from 1962 through 1986, and led the chorus to six of their seven International Competition Chapmionships.

**** End of History Lesson ****

If you attempt this cache on a Monday evening, between 7:30pm and 10:30pm, feel free to enter the hall to watch and hear the Thoroughbreds rehearse.

Not recommended for Sunday mornings as a church service is held in the hall. Please do not move or disturb any of the graves or headstones. It's not there!
