A pleasant historic railway walk along the Cholsey and Wallingford Railway which is celebrating 25 years of Preservation (1981 to 2006). Please wear sensible footear when wet! A few stiles to clamber over.
The Cholsey and Wallingford Railway is a preserved former Great Western Railway branchline that links the national railway network at Cholsey, with the historic market town of Wallingford, Oxfordshire. Trains run on selected weekends and bank holidays throughout the year and, where available, are steam hauled. Known locally as "The Bunk", passenger services ceased in 1959. Having secured the line in 1981, the CWR Preservation Society now aims to re-create a GWR Station, similar to the original, at its site in Hithercroft Road, Wallingford. The railway aims to offer steam hauled trains where possible, but also operates an interesting fleet of 08 class diesel locomotives. Current projects - Sponsor a sleeper.. Over 600 sleepers are to be replaced. Suggested parking at Cholsey Church N 51. 34.733, W 001. 09.480 (1.4km to cache) 2. Winterbrook Lane parking: You can park near to N51 35 493 W001 07.845, which is close to a footpath taking you to the cache....this does cross the busy bypass so be extra careful with children and dogs. (1km to cache) 3. If arriving by train at Cholsey, turn left just outside the station, follow path to West End and along (dont go left through tunnel) to a path opposite end of Sandy Lane (parking also here) and will follow the C&WR round and cross to a church, through the cemetry to the left, and over the road to continue to the cache ( 2.67km, but a great walk!) 4 Parking at N51.34.981 W001.08.389 (limited) on Wallingford Road up from caps lane AT FOOTPATH. --------------------------------------------------- You are looking for a 2.4L tupperware container which contained when hidden: Hornby collectable tin card - FREE to First Time Finder!!
