Junior Botanist Mystery Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions

This cache is located in a public park. Sometimes the gates of the park are closed but it is still perfectly OK to enter.
Before you can find the cache you have to identify six european trees. When transferring your knowledge into coordinates you need the scientific names of these trees. Unless you are a botanist it is useful to carry a reference book with you.
It is very easy to identify all these trees when they carry some leaves and fruits. During the winter your task is more difficult but still possible.
First waypoint is at:
N 49° 40.169
E 006° 07.145
At the given coordinates you are standing in the middle of a triangle where in each corner you will see a young tree. Order of the trees is irrelevant. Just write down the species of the three nearest trees.
Second waypoint is at:
N 49° 40.226
E 006° 07.106
On your way to second waypoint you will see an old thick tree. It is so thick that the walking path had to give some space for it. Note down the species of this old tree.
At the given coordinates you will find a bench. Sit down and look around. You will see one old conifer near the bench. After identifying this, walk along the path for another 15 metres, and you will find on your left a rather young tree you have also to identify. You should now have the name of six trees in your notebook.
Now you can calculate the coordinates of the final cache. Check your reference book for the scientific names of these trees. Take the second letter from the genus of each tree and convert it into a number (A=1, B=2, C=3, …). Eg. Beech (Fagus sylvatica) has a scientific genus Fagus. Second letter is A which gives you number 1.
You will get variables A, B and C from the first three trees and variables D, E and F from the last three trees.
Coordinates of the final cache are :
N 49° 40.[D*E*(F-1)]/6+1
E 006° 07.(A*B*C)/3+33
