Years ago, it appears, a researcher stumbled upon the legend of a
people who were proud and strong.
The stories tell of a young man who spent his fortune traveling
the region in search of any proof of a people that have long past.
This young man has grown wise with age and has seen much of the
world through the eyes of his ancestors. He has heard the wind
whisper to him and he has spoken with the lands themselves.
I have had the fortune to meet this man who was a lad. He has
shown me places that were once ruled by great people and he has
shown me stories of the great imagination these people had. It is
said that the people of the realm enjoyed the creation of puzzles
and riddles to keep spirits high and to keep the mind sharp.
This man has shared some of these with us and we have felt
blessed, but I have often wondered how he came upon the knowledge
of these people, fore I have not found reference to this land or
this culture except through the few small tokens that have been
shared with us.
I have taken it upon myself to try to bring more of this legend
into the light of day and I have spent many an hour pouring through
the tomes of scrolls I can find of the area. It would appear the
ruler of these people was somewhat of a trickster himself but was
he more of a legend then a man? Was he truly all that it is said he
was to be or could his stories have grown over the years into
something of legend where once there was not?
As I began to dig deeper and further into the legends and
stories I found more references of a challenging riddle solvable by
none, an area of challenge to see who could or would make it, a
throne where the leader of this proud people would sit, a vault
hidden in the mountains that only a few would visit or the place
where this ruler would take refuge from the world and sit in
peace.
I continued to pour through the journals and stories, I spoke
with the people who have lived in this land and I listened to my
heart as I tried to piece it all together. How could one man have
found all this? How could this have remained hidden from the world
until the dawning of truth was opened for all to see?
I grew frustrated as I found little more then whispers or
sounds, nothing found could be proven and nothing found was fact.
Legends, nothing more? Alas, as I was giving into despair of
finding more, I ventured into the desert in hopes of finding some
shard of evidence that I had not been a fool to hope and dream.
As I sat in the silence of a night so dark, I heard a whisper
upon the wind. Now you may not believe what I have to say, but I
was told of a Queen of Copper. I heard that upon the land of the
Queen of Copper I would find a place close to the spirits and these
spirits could tell me a story. Suddenly I found myself sitting in
my house, try as I might I cannot explain how I got home from the
desert or the night alone, but I ran to the computer and began to
search for this Queen of Copper. Where did she reside, who is she?
How can this help in my search. Something happened that night,
something amazing, for it was this very night that I found
information leading back to 1910 which references a ‘Mule and a
Ballard!’
I yelled out to my children that I had finally found the missing
link. I know now who this boy grown to a man must be. The
stories of the ruler are not just legend, the people were real!
Quickly I gathered a friend to me and we headed down into the lands
of the Copper Queen, we found our way up hills and over ridges. We
fought through rocks and brush and came upon the sacred site that
others have not told about. Mule of Kaidoz! I call to you, I
have been shown your place of honor. I have seen the place
where one can gaze upon the land of Kaidoz in whole and I have
found the marker upon the hill that bears your name! The
Mule
has a spot of honor because while he is the boy grown to spread the
word, it would seem that he is also the embodied spirit of the true
leader of this land. I have seen your realm and I am honored.
I have left my gift for yourself and your people and I have felt
a great sadness and burden lifted away. Mule of Kaidoz, may your
place of honor be on the Ballard of a mountain for
all time to come.
