Geocache Description:

This adventure takes you to a unique structure near Music Mountain in the Housatonic State Forest. It is believed to have been built by the Civilian Conservation Corps.

The Housatonic State Forest consists of nearly 10,000 acres in 5 towns. It is the only Connecticut state forest containing part of the Appalachian Trail.

Most of the picturesque hills of the Housatonic State Forest were repeatedly clearcut to feed the charcoal demands of the iron industry. The charcoal mounds are round, flat-top, about 20 feet across and can be seen thoughout the area. The trees have since re-grown; the rugged hills of the state forest provide a panoramic backdrop.

This is a very short walk, but good shoes/boots will make a world of difference. Wise cachers wear blaze orange during hunting season. As always, enjoy the adventure!
