Geocache Description:

An off-set multi following old Canley Lane - this used to be a particularly muddy path, but has been improved. Questions below modified on 04/08/08 and 18/07/15 to reflect changes on the ground.

Canley Lane was an ancient route which was the main road between Coventry and Kenilworth in medieval times, before the turnpike Kenilworth Road was built in the 18th Century. Canley Lane linked with Canley Ford and what is now Canley Road and Cannon Hill Road. The ancient track, known in the 20th Century as “the ashy path” joined Cannon Hill Road at its tight bend and ran across between fields where Cannon Park Primary School and Cannon Park Estate were built in the late 1960s. The track passed over Canley Brook using a bridge which still exists as a public footpath and continued in a straight line towards the Kenilworth Road. This section of the track still exists and comes out at Kenilworth Road at Abberton Way which was constructed in the 1980s. The track continued across where Kenilworth Road now lies to the north side of Wainbody Wood. It is stated in the Coventry Leet Book that King Henry VI used this route when travelling from Coventry to the village and castle of Kenilworth in 1451 after having stayed in Coventry for the previous month.

Coordinates are for roadside parking, just inside Abberton Way, with room for a couple of cars. Park with consideration for residents, and take great care when leaving, as the Kenilworth Road is busy with fast moving traffic. Note that there are parking restrictions - No Parking Mon-Fri 10-11am & 2-3pm.

Initially you’ll have to bear slightly left, then it’s onwards to find the cache at

Replacement cache is a disguised micro. Bring your own writing implement. Others seem to find the original container, but I can never spot it.
