Cascading Gem Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
A pleasant walk of just less then 1km will take you to this water fall and swimming holes located in the savannah surrounding Mareeba.
Emerald Creek Falls is perfect spot for a picnic, swimming and short walks up to the falls. The walk to the lookout begins near the carpark following Emerald Creek. There are a series of inviting rock pools along the trail if you wish to swim. A section of rapids formed by the crystal clear creek water cascading over large granite boulders is ideal for photography. This is a lovely area to visit in the end of the wet season when the flowering plants are radiant and colourful. The short one kilometre track leads to spectacular views back down the waterfall and across the Tableland.
How To Get There
The turn off to Emerald Creek Falls is signposted from the Kennedy Highway. Driving from Kuranda it is about 10 kilometres past the Davies Creek turn off and just 3 kilometres outside Mareeba. This is Tinaroo Creek Road. Follow it for about 3 kilometres to Cobra Road. Turn left here. In about 8 kilometres you will reach the entrance of the State Forest Park. The road is steep and not suitable for trailers or caravans. A conventional car will manage just fine.
The walk to the cache is along a well maintained path. We recommend that you watch unrestrained geo-kiddies however. Dogs are permitted as long as they are on a leash.
The cache container is a pvc pipe with screw cap lid. There is no need to wander into regeneration areas or near to cliff edges to locate the cache.
Congratulations to The Goons who were first to find and also snagged the FTF geocoin we placed as a prize.
