Geocache Description:

Within this 654-acre Metro Park, the 118-acre Walden Wildlife Refuge with its 11-acre Thoreau Lake provides a sanctuary for hundreds of birds and other wildlife. More than 220 species of birds have been sighted at the park. (Source: Park brochures and website.)

Blendon Woods Metro Park Wildlife Observation Shelter

The details of Blendon Woods Metro Park can be found on http://www.metroparks.net/default.aspx . In 1796, the rolling land was part of a U.S. military tract used to pay Continental soldiers for their service in the American Revolution who bought the land for only $1.50/acre. Please review this website for information about park hours of operation and review the associated detailed map of the park. Trail maps are also available within the park. The cache was specifically placed to cause cachers to hike the Pond Trail back to Thoreau Lake in the Walden Wildlife Refuge. I recommend that you bring a camera with you when doing this cache, especially if you enjoy photographing waterfowl or intend to continue your visit by hiking the trails. The main road of the park, which is a great drive in itself, takes you back to the Nature Center parking lot where you’ll be a short and level walk from the cache. After completing this cache, please consider walking the Ripple Rock, Overlook, and Brookside Trails for the great photo opportunities. Total distance from car to cache is 0.3 miles. This Columbus Metro Parks CMP-Blendon Woods cache is placed with the permission of park management using Permit Number 02-02-06, a requirement for metro park caches. The cache itself is a zippered nylon pouch with a geocache label with logbook and pen hidden indoors at floor level. The cache has also been fully stocked with collectable wooden nickles that have a Columbus Metro Parks logo on one side and the geocaching logo on the other side along with the exclamation "I found the cache!" The coordinates will get you to the right location but, once inside the West observation shelter, searching will be necessary. The path to this cache is newly paved, is handicapped-accessible, and is ideal for children and strollers. Please view the pictures for hints to the cache location.
