Geocache Description:

The cache is located in one of Wisconsin's "best" state parks - the Richard Bong State Recreation Area. There is over 4,500 beautiful acres out here folks (a Geocacher's dream!) and there is over 40 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, horseback riding, and ATV riding! A recreation area differs from a state park or forest in that it offers additional activities not traditionally found in state parks. Appropriate to its name, Richard Bong SRA also offers an area where visitors may fly model airplanes, hang gliders, hot air balloons, and launch rockets (I always wanted to be one of those "scientists."). The Richard Bong State Recreation Area has space to train both hunting and sled dogs, train falcons, and hunt (seasonal). All such activities take place in the special use zone or managed hunt areas.

There is also a "free" museum here, which details its history, and showcases the animals that live here (some displays are people inter-active). Check it out…kids will LOVE this place! (The museum is open Jan-March from 9 AM-3 PM. The rest of the year it is open from 12-3 PM. Hours are subject to change due to volunteers who help staff the center. Thanks to all you nice folks who do this!)

There is a park admission fee of $7 a car for Wisconsin residents (bring your friends or family), $10 a car for non-residents, or it's free if you have a Wisconsin State Park vehicle tag on your car. The park is open from 6 AM until 11 PM (nice for you night hunters). Park at the Visitor Center Lot at these coordinates: N42 38.032 W088 07.632.

The cache is hidden along the short 0.7-mile Visitor Center Nature Trail, which begins behind the building. There is a boardwalk on the trail that overlooks beautiful Wolf Lake. You are looking for a small camo plastic container, which can hold small items. Bring something to write with to sign the log. Look out for trail muggles.

The Geocache Notification Form has been submitted to and approved by Superintendent Laura Van Slyke of The Richard Bong State Recreation Area on 11/20/2006.
