Geocache Description:

This is a good walk, With a great view.

Mount Tauhara is a dormant stratovolcano, 3569 feet (1088 m) high, situated within the Taupo caldera towards the southern end of the Taupo Volcanic Zone. It is 6 kilometres (4 mi) east of the town of Taupo, next to the northeastern shore of Lake Taupo.

Mount Tauhara is a prominent landmark for the Taupo township, often referred to as The Lady of the Lake or more popularly as the Pregnant Lady owing to its silhouette when viewed from the west.

Formed about 65,000 years ago, Mount Tauhara was not a violently explosive vent, instead slowly oozing a viscous dacitic lava. It is the largest mass of dacite within the Taupo volcano, whose material is 98% rhyolitic.

Tauhara is Maori for slow mover
