Muistendi järgi ehitanud mäe ja lossi kaupmees Andres Voore, kes laialt oma laevadega kauplemas käinud. Kord piiranud aga vaenlased ta lossi sisse. Tema ise aga pääsenud põgenema ruhega, millega sõudnud väikesele järvele pakku. See piiratud aga jälle ümber, et Andres pidanud järvel nälga surema... Sellest praegugi Andrese järve nimi! Lossi olemasolu on rahvas järeldanud liivavõtmisel ja kartulikoobaste kaevamisel leitud tellisetükkide ja esemekatkete põhjal. Arheoloogilisi kaevamisi Vooremäel pole toimunud. Juhuslikult sõjaaegsetest kaevikutest leitud savinõukildude põhjal tuleb oletada, et enne viimaseid suuri kindlustustöid, mil mäe nõlvu on kaevatud järsemaks ja jalamile kuhjati ringvall, oli siin muistne asula, kus kasutati käsitsi vormitud savinõusid. Sellest on tublisti nooremad pottsepakedral valmistatud savinõude killud. Täpsemalt dateeritavaid leide Vooremäelt pole teada. Väga tingimisi on võimalik oletada, et Vooremägi on oma ajaloolt sarnane Tõrva Tantsumäega, kus samuti esineb asustus- ja kindlustamis jälgi 9-13. sajandini. Vooremägi aga asus otse põhja-lõunasuunalisel väga olulisel liiklusteel,mida mitmel korral nimetab ka Läti Henrik. Pole võimatu, et kunagi tõestavad arheoloogilised väljakaevamised, et pärast 1224. aastal toimunud suurt maadejagamist Tartu piiskopi ja Mõõgavendade ordu vahel püüdis piiskop Vooremäge kasutada tollipunktina ja ehk seda isegi kindlustada! Varandusotsijate mitmed suured kaevised, kartulikoopad ja liivavõtmine on mäge siiski sedavõrd kahjustanud, et on võimatu otsustada, kas mäel toimunud viimased kindlustustööd jõuti lõpule viia või jäid need mingil põhjusel pooleli. Oma ehitusviisilt meenutab Vooremägi Ida-Leedu 12-13. sajandi linnuseid.

According to a legend a rich merchant Andres Voore built the hill and also the castle on top of it. Once enemies surrounded his castle, but Andres managed to escape in a small boat. But again, his enemies besieged the lake and wanted to starve Andres to death... Hence the lake is up to now called Andres Lake! Although local people have found pieces of bricks and Fragments of different objects, no archaeological excavations have been carried out in Vooremäe. Fragments of pottery found in the World War II trenches suggest that prior to the last fortification works on the hillfort. Finds include hand-made pottery fragments, but also mush younger pieces made on potter´s wheel. The history of Vooremägi may be compared to the „Dance Hill” in Tõrva, where a settlement and fortifications can be traced up to the 9th- 13th centuries. Vooremägi was right on the major North-South traffic way that is also mentioned in Henric´s Livonian Chronicle. It is quite possible that archaeological excavations will in future prove that after the battles in 1224 between the Bishop of Tartu and Order of the Brethren of the Sword the Bishop intended to use Vooremägi as a control place for customs duties and perhaps even fortified the hill. However, fortune hunters and sand diggings have damaged the hill to such an extent that it is not possible to determine whether the last fortification works on the hill were completed or remained unfinished. The construction style of Vooremägi is similar to the 12th-13th century hillforts in Eastern Lithuania.
