A very small cache, containing a logbook, 3 spare pencils, pencil sharpener and Geocache information card, there may also be room for a small travelbug or geocoin.
Since its inception in 1925 as in integral part of the UK air defence system, the primary role of the Royal Observer Corps (ROC) was the recognition and identification of hostile aircraft. With the start of the cold war and the increasing threat of nuclear attack in the 1950's, the ROC was given the added responsibility of reporting nuclear bursts and monitoring fall-out which necessitated the construction of 1563 underground monitoring posts throughout Great Britain & Northern Ireland.
This cache is placed very near the ROC Bratton post. Unfortunately although clearly visible from the asphalt lane and the cache hide, the bunker itself is located on restricted access MOD land, so closer examination is NOT permitted. Also note that the MOD have capped the hatch to prevent unwanted entry underground. The is no need to trespass on either the farm or MOD land, the cache is located in the road side verge.
