An short and easy waymarked walk with great views of Ulverston. Start and finish at The Gill. Lots of parking close by andthe walk will take half an hour or so.
Find your way to the location at the top of the page. This is the start of the Cambrian Way in The Gill, Ulverston. There is plenty of parking near by.
In 1998 the drugs giant Glaxo Smithkline celebrated 50 years in the town and donated fifty benches to the community. The bench at the start of the way is number = AB
Head along the footpath alongside Gill Banks Beck north towards the next location N54°11.967 W003°06.080 here you will find a delightful clearing with a picnic table and a seat. Bernard Atkinson was born in the year = 19CC
Continue along the footpath along side the beck to a small weir and the start of a long forgotten mill race. The Gill used to power a number of mills in the town, in particular the 'Town Mill'. This has been fairly recently restored and turned into a pub - Millers. You will pass it at then end of your walk as your return to the Gill. Go through the kissing gate just beyond the weir at N54°12.228 W 003°06.088 across the road and through another gate. Look behind you - you will see a public footpath finger post - Bankhurst is 'D' miles (D
Follow the footpath along the wall up onto the lower slopes of Flan Hill. Watch for a dramatic glimpse of the Hoad monument to your right. At N54°12.435 W003°05.703 you will find a finger post. How many rings around the top of the post = E
A gentle walk though the wood onto Hoad Hill. At N54°12.265 W003°05.282 you will find another bench this time dedicated to an anonymous 'Mum and Gran' - what year was she born = 19FG
Have a seat, take in the view and work out the following

After finding the cache it’s almost a straight line back to The Gill, unless of course you want to take in Hoad Hill itself. Find the start of the return path at N54°12.232 W003°05.386. Follow the path down hill until you come to a road at N54°11.966 W003°05.416. Turn right and carry straight on into town. You will reach Millers and just past the pub the starting point.
