Geocache Description:

With all due respect for Queen Emma and her place in Hawaiian History this cache is named after one of the happiest beings that has ever visited this place, our Hanai dog on the Big Island, Emma.

Just a short 30 minute drive from downtown Kona and the surrounding moonscape, this well maintained state trail is a great testament of the climatic diversity on the Big Island. You will wind through a rain forest featuring sweet smelling Ginger and giant 40 foot Hapu'u (ha-poo uu) ferns. The hike is a little over two miles, relatively flat and is suitable for the whole family.

An interesting diversion along the way is the little hunters shack found a short distance into this trail at:

19 42.612
155 57.155

Take notice of the cool natural poles used to support the lanai in the front of this building. This is also a nice place to duck out of the rain or have lunch.

The trail will take you to a utility road, head up there for a short distance to find the cache. Important note, there's a hole from a rotted out Ohia Tree very near this cache that you don't want to fall into. Please be careful.
