Geocache Description:

Ammo Box in Hastings Lake Forest Preserve.

Hastings Lake Forest Preserve is located on the site of the former YMCA Camp where hundreds, and over the years thousands, of kids came to ride horses, swim, canoe, toboggan and become the people they are today.

The cabins and day care center, the in-ground pool and the toboggan run are gone now, but it is not hard to imagine the children of yesterday enjoying their camp days gone bye.

The path from the parking lot to the cache dead ends in a T. Stay on the path until quite close to the cache.

Area cachers will recognize the name of this cache as a tip of the hat (Hat?) to HatLat and the nearby (and now archived) Deers Gone Bye Cache in McDonald's Woods - one of my favorite caches.

DO NOT attempt from the YMCA off Grass Lake Road. Thorns, fences and a creek lie between the Y and the cache.

Hasting Lake Preserve hours are 6:30 a.m. to sunset.
