Geocache Description:

The cache is named for the otters that we have seen playing in Mill Creek.

My favorite cache type is a large container found after a nice walk in the woods. This cache is not as large as I had hoped (It's in a decon container), but it does follow a nice walk. If you park at Reynolda Commons and access the trailhead at 36° 9.199 N, 80° 18.702 W, the walk is a bit less than one mile round trip - if you find the correct paths.

The area can be muddy - it was when the cache was hidden. Trails lead fairly close to the cache location, but a short bushwack may be needed to reach the cache. The most direct line may not be the best one - in fact, it probably isn't. Please try to practice "Leave No Trace" and avoid wearing a direct path to the cache location.

The cache has a few trade items and a nice FTF prize.

Update 11/30/06. After a couple of DNFs, I went to re-check the coordinates. (The original coodinates were obtained on 2 GPSrs (of different brands) with WAAS lock. Tonight, those coordinates put me ~60' downstream. The original coordinates were: N36° 09.376 W080° 18.511. I'll re-check the coordinated again and update the cache if necessary.

I've seen signs of someone recently climbing a steep creekbank near the cache. You do not need to climb up or down a bank or put your feet in running water (unless it's raining) to reach the cache. Please be gentle to the environment and stay on flat ground to the cache.
