Geocache Description:

We invite you to take a beautiful walk or bike ride along the North Fork of the American River to a favorite local swimming area known as Clark’s Pool and also to the historic foundation of a long gone covered toll bridge.

The Auburn State Recreation Canyon Keepers (ASRACK) (visit link) have an online Confluence Interpretive Trail guide that says Clark’s Pool has been a popular local swimming hole for over 100 years. The ASRACK website also says that Clark’s Pool used to be Auburn’s Municipal Swimming Pool and even had concession stands and lifeguards on duty. This cache is placed just past marker #10 of ASRACK’s (the above mentioned) self-guided historic bridges and nature trail tour. You’ll see foundations on both sides of the river along this trail of bridges of days gone by. Marker #10 tells the story of a covered toll bridge built in 1875 and used till 1911 to allow travel from Forest Hill to Auburn.

The trail to this cache is accessible from the American River confluence parking area. Take the Lake Clementine Trailhead which is on the Forest Hill side of the curved old Forest Hill Bridge. It might not be the best idea to come out at night since the trail goes under the Forest Hill bridge and there is evidence along the river that very large objects are tossed from the bridge at night.

Cache is placed alongside the trail and is not on the river side of the trail.

And the FTF goes to Warriorrider!
