ODS: Eleventyfirst (or Seed #1) Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Texas Dreamweaver: The party tree at the final location is gone so I am archiving this one for now so that I can get another cache published. I will revive this one asap with a new solution to the puzzle and a new final location.

Remember the Hobbit movie part two is coming out in December 2013!

Geocache Description:

This cache was hidden as part of the One Degree of Separation Geocaching Project. This is a seed that came from ODS:Prime (GCVR2F), the first seedpod to be hidden.

CONGRATULATIONS TO PIMAN314 on FTF!!!

Bilbo Baggins disappeared from the Shire to head for Rivendell during his birthday party. Underneath the huge party tree, he gave a speech celebrating his 111th or “Eleventyfirst” birthday. Eleventyfirst = 111.

111 also means:

1 = One Degree of Separation

1 = ODS: Prime, the first of the seedpods to be hidden (by Snoogans himself)

1 = This cache is the first seed taken from ODS: Prime.

Since I will forever go down in Geocaching history as the FTFODS (first to find an ODS cache), I am proud to announce that I have hidden the very first seed ever taken, Seed #1. To find this cache, one must figure out this simple puzzle.

Virtually everyone can solve the puzzle but it will take a little time and effort, after all it would be an insult for ODS Seed #1 to be a simple park-n-grab. Degrees remain the same, you just need to figure out the rest.

After answering all questions and applying the formula, go to the Posted Coordinates. There you will find a plaque with a date (WXYZ). Add the 4 digits together (W+X+Y+Z = AA). Using the value of AA, add that value to the North coordinates that you deduced from the formula below. Subtract the same value from the West coordinates. This will be the correct coordinates to take you to the final cache.

And now for the puzzle, once upon a time in a land far, far away:

A. Bilbo’s mother was one of how many daughters of the “head of the Hobbits who lived across the Water”? ________

B. At the “Unexpected Party”, how many dwarves arrived at the same time as Gandalf?

C. Early in the adventure, Bilbo tried to pickpocket an individual name William. William was one of ______ trolls turned to stone by the rising sun.

D. How many days did “the Company” stay in Rivendell? _________

E. On the treasure map were runes describing a door. How high was the door? ________

I. How many passages to the “left” did Gollum count to find his way upwards to the back door of the goblins’ cave? _________________

J. The angry goblins sang about __________birds.

K. Sitting in how many trees?__________

L. Beorn was a shape shifter, a man who could transform into a bear. At the end of this tale, Beorn became the king of his region. Including himself, how many shape shifters does the book says he ruled. ________________.

M. How many days did the company travel from the enchanted stream until they decided to make Bilbo climb a tree? _____________

N. Bilbo was still cutting down the dwarves from the spider web when the spiders returned. How many dwarves were still hanging at the end of the branch? _______

U. Bilbo was added to the adventure because the dwarves did not want to go adventuring with an unlucky number. Bilbo was conspirator # ___________?

The first step to find Eleventyfirst is: N 29° {I-O} {M-P} . {F+G} {S} {U-K}

W095° {E-L} {A+T}.{C+B} {J-H} {[D+R]-[Q+N]}
