Old Stomping Grounds - The Dam Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

mudsneaker: Someone has cut the barrier and is driving in to the cache area using it, and based on the trampling is likely the reason the cache is missing. There is a posted notice that the highway is going to be widened, the bridge replaced, and a walking trail down by the dam, so it's best to archive for now until the dust settles. Thanks for coming and hope everyone had fun!

Geocache Description:

McDonnell Creek Dam

Long ago as a young lad growing up in a neighborhood nearby, this was one of many places we would go as us kids explored the creek during the summers. I've waded from the river mouth to miles upstream. There use to be a grocery store and The Garage Tavern on this corner lot. Burned down many many years ago, the lot has been long abandoned. Below is the small but always active McDonnell Creek. But dont let its small size fool you though, this creek can get raging when its been raining alot.

And its here that you'll find a small dam with its own mini fish ladder. Theres a side channel to divert water when needed for irrigation or emergency supply, complete with fish screen and monitering station. Unfortunatly down near the dam there was no appropriate hide spots for a regular container. The cache is above the creek area, but if you choose to take a stroll to the dam, head toward the bridge and go down at that point. Or continue past the cache on the trail and enjoy the view from above. If your feeling brave bushwack down right above the dam. You may get lucky and spot salmon going up the ladder at certain times of the year.

Good Luck and Enjoy!

This is the first of the "Old Stomping Grounds" Series I'm planning. More to come when ever I am in town visiting my family and friends.
