Geocache Description:

Located next to a Royal Observer Corps monitoring post in Slaley.

In the atmosphere of the Cold War, with a network of hundreds of observation posts, and many thousands of trained volunteer observers, The Royal Observer Corps adapted itself from being the "eyes and ears of the RAF", to becoming the field monitoring force of the United Kingdom Warning and Monitoring Organisation responsible for identifying and locating bomb bursts, and tracking the subsequent (and deadly) radioactive fallout.

The bunker is still in good condition for its age opened in 1961 and closed 1991 . The area is completely safe and no more of a hazard than any place with metal or concrete objects. However the inside of the bunker is locked and entry should not be attempted.

The bunker and cache are just off a public footpath which starts at The Church of St. Mary the Virgin and runs alongside the grounds to the north. Parking is available on the road in the village.

The cache is a plastic storage container.
