Down the Lane "Driftway" Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Graculus: This cache has been disabled for some time and as the owner has not repaired/replaced it, I am archiving it.

Guidelines: "You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time - normally a few weeks - in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing."

If you wish to email me please send your email via my profile (click on my name) and quote the cache name and number.

Geocache Description:

Our 1st Cache - Down the Lane "Driftway", Chinnor

Our first cache is a short walk around the village of Chinnor to gather the answers to 5 questions. Once collected you will be lead to a micro containing the coordinates to the final cache.

In the summer you could use a mountain bike but it's not advisable after heavy rain as it can/will get extreamly muddy. Also be aware that you will cross a couple of small streams so please take care with children or clumsy adults.

The coordinates at the top of the page are for parking, although there is plenty of roadside parking around.

You first quest is to visit Mr Couling at N 51° 42.093 W 000° 54.359, Chris was a very good friend of ours who due to illness never got the chance to do a Geocache but was always interested in what we'd been up to whilst caching so we thought we'd do this in memory of him.
 • What age was Chris when he died ? Add the two digits together to get A (Keep adding the resulting digits together until you are left with one)
Back-track to your next target, N 51° 42.185 W 000° 54.337, you will pass the Village Centre Coffee shop which you may want to visit post-cache and sample a slice of one of their home made cakes. When you arrive :
 • From the gate - How many "Witneys" are remembered (in both wars)? Answer: B
Continue down the High Street to N 51° 42.295 W 000° 54.415
 • In what year were the Reading Rooms built ? 1XYX and When was disabled Access constructed ? 19XZ C = (X + Y - Z)
Whilst here you may want to take a look at Alibag's Never at Sea - The Killick which it quite nearby.

If you fancy a nice walk in the park rather than along the street follow the pointer up Benton Drive, if you fancy a nice pint pop into the Red Lion at the end of the High Street.

Your 4th stop (not including cake or beer) is Morland House, N 51° 42.278 W 000° 54.776 which used to be the Bird in Hand public house.
 • Add the number of colours in the thirsty artist's pallet to the number of brushes he has. Answer: D
On to the Windmill at N 51° 42.216 W 000° 54.985, as a kid I helped sort the wood for the original push to rebuild, that was over 20 years ago now but in the last few years things have really moved on - if you're a windmill spotter have a look at Mill Archive to see how things have progressed :o)
 • Count the number of brick pillars which will eventually hold the weight of the Windmill then add the number of "fake" kites to get E
You should now be able to calculate the micro's coords

N 51° 42.(D-E)(C-E)(D-B-A) W 0° 55.(A+A)(B-A)(B+A)

This is where the mud can start - you'll have a good guide by looking down the lane to see the amount of puddles or should I say, the amount of ground visible. From here it's about a 1.5km walk to the final cache, this lane is very popular with dog walkers so once at the cache site keep an eye out.

If you fancy a longer walk whilst doing this cache you could loop to the North to Sydenham, Emmington and Henton to take in Jolly Green Giants Mid Life Crisis and A Church Too Far, DRC's Indian Or African and Team Hippo's Henton Badgers or loop to the South-East to find Team Hippo's Kites of Crowell and on to Simply Paul's Ridgeway run series.

We hope you enjoy it !
