Three Bridges Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

cervisvenator: Hi

While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for the cache owner and block other cachers from placing a cache in the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can’t do so forever.

Nothing seems to happen with this cache listing, so it is now archived, so that someone else can place a cache in the area, and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location. Also, if it hasn’t been done already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

If the owner wants it reopened, send me an e-mail and I’ll be happy to unarchive the cache listing if it still satisfies the requirement/guidelines.

(This reviewer note is in English so non-Norwegian cache owners, geocachers and cache reviewers can understand what it says.)

Thanks for your understanding,
Cervis Venator

Geocache Description:

This cache was part of Julekalender 2006

The cache is located on Flatøy in Meland kommune.

Flatøy is VERY accessible by car. As one of very few islands it actually has three road bridges, two of which connects it to the mainland and one which connects it to the rest of Meland.

The bridges

The three bridges are very differently constructed.

Krossnessundbrua

Krossnessundbrua was opened in 1977 and connects Flatøy to Holsnøy, by far the largest island in Meland kommune. The main stretch is 175m and the total length is 391,5m. It is a concrete box-girder bridge built in-place.

Hagelsundbrua

Hagelsundbrua was opened in 1982 and connects Flatøy (and thus Meland) to Knarvik in Lindås kommune. The main stretch is 250m and the total length is 623m. It is a classic suspension bridge with a sailing height of 50m and tower height of 80m.

Nordhordlandsbrua

Nordhordlandsbrua was opened in 1994 and connects Flatøy to Klauvaneset in Bergen kommune. This is a very special bridge. There is a cable-stayed bridge with a main stretch of 172m and 32m sailing clearance. The cable-stayed bridge ends in a pillar standing at the end of an underwater ridge at 30m depth, where it connects directly to a 1246m long steel floating bridge resting on concrete pontoons without lateral moorings. This is the longest floating bridge without lateral moorings in the world. This is due to Salhusfjordens depth of up to 500m.

The cache

The given coordinates is to the parking lot for stages #1 and #2. Coordinates for stages 1-3 are available as child waypoints. To get the real coordinates for the cache, you have to take a walk on each of the three bridges to find the missing parts of the coordinates.

Stage 1, Krossnessundbrua AA printed on whiteboard magnet. Stage 2, Nordhordlandsbrua BBB printed on whiteboard magnet. Stage 3, Hagelsundbrua CCC printed on whiteboard magnet.

Then put your numbers into here:

N60 BB.BAA E5 16.CCC

Now you can go hunting for the final stage.

Good luck! :)
