The "ABC" Series
The Akron Bedford Cleveland Interurban (The ABC or AB & C) was established in 1895 and ran until 1906 when it became part of the Northern Ohio Traction and Light (The N.O.T. & L.) trolley line. The "ABC" was the first high speed interurban in the United States to run between two major cities. Boasting speeds of up to 70 miles per hour a round trip from Akron to Cleveland cost just sixty cents.

At this location you are standing on the remains of the Dunham Road Bridge. Just west of this cache between what is now the Wheeling & Lake Erie and Norfolk Southern Railway Main lines was the signal tracked ABC Line's tenth stop, called Stop Ten. Passengers would walk out onto the bridge and use a wooden stairway that looked very much like a fire escape to gain access to Stop Ten as they traveled in the bright red electric trolley cars of the ABC Line. The ABC Line ran 35 round trips per day. Unfortunatly the entire trolley operation ceased in 1932. For years after its closing the area of around the intersection of Broadway and Libby roads including Mapletown Shopping Center continued to be known to the local residence simply as Stop Ten.
