Geocache Description:

Unlucky for Some

This cache is named “Unlucky for Some” because it is the 13th cache that we have placed! It is located at Belshaw’s Quarry National Nature Reserve.

Belshaw’s Quarry was worked for limestone until the early 1960s. It is now maintained by the Environment and Heritage Service, and is open to the public. The Quarry is made up of many rocks including Tertiary Basalt, Cretaceous Chalk, Lignite and Mudstone. The oldest rock is over 225 million years old.

The Nature Reserve is situated close to Lisburn. Take the A30 Lisburn to Glenavy Road, and the Reserve is signposted along Benson’s Road. There is lay-by parking at the entrance gates.

There are grass tracks around and through the quarry, these can be muddy in wet weather. There are also several flights of steps to negotiate.

Please replace the cache very carefully so that it is unobtrusive, it has been muggled three times already!

It is difficult to get a good "fix" for co-ordinates with the quarry walls all around, so there is a good hint.
