Geocache Description:

Easy Cache, Historic Location

In 1852, the Stage finally came to Battle Ground. Growth in the area stimulated by the success of Anderson's Dairy and the booming logging industry attracted the interest of the Well's Fargo Company. In March of 52, the first Well's Fargo Stage rolled down main street and tied up at the old saloon that was located just west of the railroad tracks.

The route taken by the stage from Ft Vancouver led east along what is now 4th Plain Blvd then North along what is now Highway 503. The horses were fed, watered and groomed at a ramshackled stable that once stood near where this cache is located. The stage operated for about 15 years carrying mail, payroll, and passengers to the pioneer city of Battle Ground.

Jump ahead in time to 1981. The stages are gone and now we have C-Tran, their empty busses ply the same route to Battle Ground that was taken by the Wells Fargo Stage. For reasons unknown to this writer, when Highway 503 was recently improved, a bus stop for C-Tran was constructed in the very spot where the old stable once stood. There is a nice turnout on both sides of the road. There used to be a C-Tran sign on each side of the road identifying the turnouts as official bus stops.

From its beginning, C-Tran has been highly criticized for its high budget and low, low ridership. At some point, someone realized that these odd bus stops out in the middle of nowhere made them look a little stupid, so the signs came down. Empty busses still zoom by these stops every day but they never stop. Why stop at nothing. Nobody is waiting and nothing is there.

This cache is equipped with a waterproof log , you can sign it when it is wet if you use a pencil or waterproof pen.
