Distance from car-to-cache is under a couple hundred feet (a little bit longer if you want to park and walk from the turnout just "above" the cache). For downhill-bound RVs and trailers, there is a large gravel turnout just past the cache.
In addition to the spectacular views that the many turnouts along Tioga Pass have to offer, you'll also get a glimpse at part of the old highway alignment. If you view the Google Maps satellite image you can see the old path; we're sure you'll agree the new route is much nicer. We don't know when this old segment was built or abandoned, but not surprisingly in an area of such extreme climate, it hasn't fared too well.
The cache is a 30-caliber ammo can stocked with the standard geo-goodies.
Good luck, and Happy Caching!
