Grindgroeve Elzetterbosch

In het verleden werd zand en grind afgegraven in deze groeve. Het zand werd na uitzeven gebruikt als metselzand. Het grind en de grotere stenen werden gebruikt in de wegenbouw.
Ongever 2 miljoen jaar geleden stroomde de Maas vanaf Luik via Noorbeek, Epen en Vijlen naar Düren in Duitsland waar zij uitmondde in de Rijn. In dit gebied heeft de Maas grind en zand afgezet afkomstig uit de Vogezen en de Ardennen.
De grote zandsteen op bovengenoemde coördinaat is afkomstig uit een voormalige zandbedekking uit het Tertiair.


Om deze Earthcache te mogen loggen moeten de volgende taken uitgevoerd worden:

Opdracht: Meet de omtrek, van de grootste steen in deze grindgroeve, in centimeters en stuur het antwoord naar FerryStreens&Fairyglitters.
Foto: Maak een foto van jezelf met GPS bij deze grote steen. Voeg deze foto bij de log.

Gravel pit Elzetterbosch


In the past sand and gravel was dug up in this pit. After filtering the sand was used as masonry sand. The gravel and the larger stones were used for road construction.
Approximately 2 million years ago the Meuse ran from Liège, by way of Noorbeek, Epen, Vijlen to Düren in Germany, where she discharged into the Rhine. In this area the Meuse deposited gravel and sand comming from the Vosges and the Ardennes.
The large sandstone that you'll find at the above coordinates originates from a former sandcover of the Tertiary period.


In order to log this earthcache, the following tasks must be succesfully completed.

Assignment: Measure the circumference (in centimeters) of the largest stone in this gravel pit. Send the answer to FerryStreens&Fairyglitters.
Photo: make a picture of yourself with GPS and this large stone. Add the picture to the log.
