This cache was originally the final stage of a two stage multi-cache. I have chosen to change it to a traditional cache as I think the location deserves a cache in its own right.
NOTE (22 June 2009): the thicket of buckthorn surrounding the cache has grown a lot in the last year, so I have upgraded the difficulty level and modified the hint. The following advice may help: there is an obvious "path" from the west side of the thicket; push through the outer ring of bushes and you will find yourself in a sort of clearing. The cache lies towards the back left of the clearing. The coordinates should get you pretty close to the correct spot (my GPS showed 2 metres when I tried today.)
For the approach to the cache there is ample parking at White Sands, N 55 59.225, W 002 27.935. The Cement Company enlarged its quarry 2/3 years ago which resulted in their closing the original road to the beach at White Sands. However a new road was built to give access to the beach and this road starts from the A1087 about 400 yards north of its junction with the A1 expressway.. It is single track with a footpath/cyclepath running alongside. White Sands is a delightful spot for a picnic, a walk along the beach or even a swim on a warm day.
The cache may also be approached from the Dunbar direction, starting from Golf Course Road, N 55 59.940 W 002 30.369.
Better still enjoy a longer walk and some beautiful coastal scenery by walking from White Sands to Dunbar or vice versa.
Please ensure that the cache is well concealed before you leave the site.
CAUTION
The route to the cache runs alongside Dunbar Golf Club. Please stay on the footpath and respect the advice given to walkers using this footpath.
