The Back Mountain Trail is a rails-to-trails project of the
Anthracite Scenic Trail Association. The trail follows, as much as
possible, the Lehigh Valley Railroad which went from Luzerne
through Dallas to Harveys Lake and eventually ended in Mountain
Springs in Rickett’s Glen State Park. The railroad was sold in
pieces, often to adjacent landowners, after the railroad ceased
operations in the 1950’s.
Many local geocachers are familiar with the first 2 miles of the
trail from Luzerne to Carverton Rd, most of which was not developed
by the owners. As more sections become available to ASTA through
donation or easement, money is raised to resurface the trail.
Volunteers regularly maintain the completed sections of the trail
on work days in the Fall and Spring.

The cache is located along a new section of the trail not far from
the trail and is available to trail users. Parking is available
across the road from a sign indicating the trail entrance to this
section. The cache is a small 6" x 4" plastic container. Please
rehide as you found it. The cache is near a very nice place to have
a picnic.
