Nightmare in the Woods Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: Hello,

As there's been no response to my earlier note, I am forced to archive this listing.

If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact me email, including the GC Code, and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Thanks,
-OReviewer

Geocache Description:

Don't let the title scare you - this is a nice hike through the woods. This cache is located on a 123-acre piece of property owned by Stroud Township.

The parking area is located off of Hallet Road in Stroud Township. Actually, it's the same parking area that you might use if you are going to "Cache Me If You CAN" (GCPH8P) and the "Stonecrusher Cache" (GCKJ9K). (And as mentioned in the Stonecrusher description, ignore any No Trespassing signs you see at the parking site - they are still left over from the previous owner of the property.) Park at N 41° 02.473’ / W 075° 13.429’. The entrance is a grassy cut-thru between the trees (right before the curve in the road). Beware of the low hanging trees if you've got a tall vehicle. You can park under the trees or keep driving about 100-200 feet and park in the open (tall grass) near the pond.

To get to the cache... Walk through the tall grass towards the creek. (Don't walk up the hill under the power lines).
Cross the creek (suggest you wear waterproof boots) and you'll see an old woods road. Follow this path to the cache. Parts of the trail are rocky and there are some downed trees which you must climb over.

The cache is a LARGE 40mm ammo box (it's large - but it's not a giant ammo box) and is located a short distance off of the main trail. When you open the box, be sure to unlatch BOTH sides and pull up to remove the lid. This cache is named nightmare, because that's what it seemed like as I was lugging this heavy ammo box on a handtruck across the creek and over all the downed trees and rocky terrain.

This ammo box is packed full of goodies for both kids and adults and even our geo-dogs. Enjoy the walk in the woods and good luck finding the cache. Walking distance from the parking area to the cache is about 0.35 miles one-way.

NOTE: Depending upon the weather and the rainfall, the creek might be anything from a small trickle of water to a very swift running stream. Please use caution and have fun.
