Geocache Description:

Kitty Kat Kave Alt. 5409

The name of this cache came from some recent caching experiences. While on a run across the desert with TrackerJack we went to the Lariat Lava Tube and someone left a cat inside the cave. We rescued the cat and it was quite a joke. A week or so later I was then hiking back from Prospect which is near by and on the way back I came across this spooky area that was an abandoned mine. I had stopped to rest and while I was looking around I spotted the opening. When you arrive you will know why this has not been discovered before. Its really hard to see. I was on my hands and knees trying to get a better look inside the cave when I looked down and in the dirt was a large cougar track. Needless to say I backed out in a hurry. The Kitty Kat Kave is about 20 feet west from the cache. The mine is only about 30 feet long but it has been occupied by animals in the past. There is another opening about 30 feet north. This is an interesting area. Hike around a little. There was a lot of effort put into these holes looking for gold. Reportedly these were done by Chinese workers from the rail road thus the name Chinks Peak. The mountain has recently been renamed Chinese Peak to be politically correct. These immigrants to the area were instrumental in helping build the area and these holes in the ground are a testament to their hard work and diligence. If you chose to enter one of these mines do so at your own risk! I left a Signal coin and a unused travel bug tag for first to find prize. I left a couple of new no battery shake flash lights. Two led key chain lights an old nickel and I can’t remember what else. Please trade fair! If the gate is open park at N42 51.242 W112 23.155 and use the trail its about 2 tenths. Its not that far. The gate is locked from November 15th thru April 14th. Walking from the gate is a longer hike, add about ½ mile one way. Enjoy!
