Geocache Description:


One of the local Ironwood trees.

Most people know that Flagstaff is in the middle of one of the largest stands of Ponderosa Pine (Pinus ponderosa) forests in the world. This forest is full of all kinds of trees besides the dominate Ponderosa Pine.

A few years back the Ponderosa pines had a little trouble with a little beetle and millions of trees were killed. These beetles are the local variety of the Bark Beetle.

Darwin pointed out that due to evolution species would evolve to avoid hardship. Well this has happened right here in Flagstaff. These new tree species are even able to communicate with one another.

This cache will lead you right up close to one of these new Ironwood tree species. Please be careful when accessing this cache as the area is very muggle heavy.

Please bring a writing instrument to the cache.
