It is advisable not to drive to the village if it is raining heavily. After parking, the walk to the cache is fairly easy.
In the natural park of the Tejeda and Almijara mountains, in a valley lays the village of Acebuchal. A paradise surrounded by pine trees and aromatic thyme and rosemary. Acebuchal is a tranquil location, a place to relax in a natural environment and enjoy Spain's unique flora and fauna.
Acebuchal is located 7 km from Frigiliana, 12km from Competa, 13km from the beaches of Nerja, 60km from Malaga and 107km from Granada.
It's the perfect location for visiting the Natural Park, Fuerte de Frigiliana, Venta Cebolleros, Puerto Blanquillo, Venta Panaderos, Nacimiento Rio Higueron, Casa de la Mina, El Daire, Competa etc.
All the houses in Acebuchal are unique and have been lovingly restored in a tradional rustic style. The houses are set in winding streets, with beautiful gardens. This historic village was originally built in the 18th Century, but was abandoned in 1949. In 1998 Antonio el Zumbo and his family started the restoration of the beautiful mountain village.
It is possible to drive to the village from Frigiliana. Take the road out of the village towards Competa/Torrox and turn right just past the plastic covered greenhouse. The road at this point is signposted to El Acebuchal. There is parking at the bottom of the village. Providing you time it right the Restaurant is a great place to stop for lunch and/or a drink.
At the restaurant you will find Antonio and he is aware of the cache. If there is a problem with the cache please speak to him and he has kindly said he would let me know.
The cache is only a 10 minute walk from the car parking area and is situated in an area where you will get good satellite signals. So it should not be too difficult.
The cache is a watertight container and has camouflaged bag around it. The initial contents were: A YoYo, Bottle Stopper, Football Keyring, 2 Pens and a Log Book. We also placed our 2 Travel Bugs -'Only Fools and Horses' & 'The Italian Job'.
