A short hike along a beautiful river in the coast range.
This is one of the first places I visited after moving to Oregon almost 10 years ago. The place seemed alien and surreal to me at the time. Although I have now become quite accustomed to our mighty mossy forests, it still warms my heart every time I return here. Perhaps this area will become a favorite of yours too.
Park at the Alsea Falls picnic area. Cross the bridge upstream from the falls and head downstream on the trail about 1/2 mile into a remnant stand of old growth firs and cedars. The cache is an ammo box near the river.
If you are enjoying the area, after finding this one continue downstream on the trail through towering bigleaf maples and an incredible alder grove to begin the hunt for the delightful "Booty by the Falls" cache.
