SUMNER’S TRAIN STATION
The first Sumner, WA train depot was built in 1873 by George Ryan. The Northern Pacific Railroad was ending it’s line in Tacoma, WA and had no plans to stop in the valley. Ryan found this unacceptable, and took steps to remedy the company’s error.
The depot was erected across the street which is now the home of the Sumner Animal Grub.
Some of the older Sumner residents remember when the train whistle blew, it was time to go to work. Produce was at the station, waiting to be moved to the canneries for packing and shipping. One of the canneries is now a furniture store call the “The Old Cannery Furniture Warehouse”, one of the Northwest’s largest furniture retailers and also a purveyor of excellent fudge.
When you're finished searching for this cache, please take some time to visit downtown Sumner, The Cannery Furniture Shop, and the Windmill, as you will find friendly folks, unique and interesting shops.

The architecture of the Sumner light rail station is taken from the hop kiln form. You can still see hop kilns in nearby Alderton.

Make sure you bring a pen to sign the log book.
